Gateway Rehab, a not-for-profit organization that provides treatment services for adults, youth and young adults, and families with alcohol and other drug-related problems was founded in 1972 by the Sisters of St. Francis and Dr. Abraham J. Twerski, an internationally recognized authority in chemical dependency treatment and a respected author, lecturer, teacher, and physician. Gateway first opened as a 28-day abstinence-based alcohol and other drug dependence treatment center. Today Gateway offers a variety of comprehensive services from treatment and prevention to extended care and employee assistance in multiple locations throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio. We view alcoholism and drug addiction as primary treatable illnesses. Gateway Rehab Center gives special recognition to the role of 12 step programs in fostering recovery. We put emphasis in our treatment programs on introducing patients to this time tested pathway to sober, healthy living. 12 step principles and values, such as honesty, appropriate self disclosure, the need for outside help and a support system, gratitude, and service to others form the basic foundation of the rehabilitative process at Gateway Rehab Center. The role of the staff is to provide an atmosphere that facilitates this process. For more than 35 years, Gateway Rehab Center has been responding to the needs of chemically dependent people and their families by offering flexible, comprehensive care.
